At Innovative Therapy 4 Kids we take a whole child and whole family approach. We focus on community engagement, participation, independence and interdependence for the child and family. Our goal is healthy, happy, socially engaged children and supported families. We look at the underlying skills needed for success at home and in the community. Initially we work with families and clients to determine their goals and priorities. Next, we look at what support is needed to achieve this goal. We determine a client’s strengths and preferences while also identifying barriers to success. Some of these barriers to success are due to physical, cognitive, or emotional skills which need further support and development. Once we have identified the client’s goals, strengths, and barriers to reach these goals, we work with clients and families to facilitate progress. Progress is made towards goals through goal directed, self-regulated activities that are developed to meet their level of need and areas of concern. We then support clients to apply this new skill set in a functional, meaningful, community environment. Our program options are determined based on the needs of each individual client and their family and are reflective of their individual program plan. Examples of our person-centered program plans include:
LiFT Program – The focus of this program in our Community Integration program is facilitation of engagement in a variety of group settings such as sports practice, music class, enjoyment of dining at restaurants, community art classes, birthday parties, play dates and family events. LiFT is a personalized program that facilitates auditory processing, self-regulation, attention, language use and acquisition, socialization, and overall well-being. The program uses a child’s own voice and filtered music to develop and improve listening skills. Staff ratio is: 1:1 – 1:3 or 1:1 in small groups with other 1:1 pairs. As with all the programs in our Community Readiness Program, a typical session intentionally includes one-to-one work in a quiet setting followed by functional use and practice of skills in a small group setting and then a community environment.
